Something happened Sunday morning that every Canadian with money in the bank should pay attention to.

President Donald Trump took direct aim at the Canadian dollar.

He wrote:

> **“Canada’s (currency) Dollar imbalance with the U.S. is unacceptable. It has been that way for years — but no longer!”**

Trump didn't explain what “but no longer” means or announce any specific policy. The U.S. dollar is currently worth about **C$1.38**, meaning C$1 buys roughly **US$0.72**. His comments also come during an escalating Canada-U.S. trade dispute. ([Trump's Truth](https://trumpstruth.org/statuses/41532?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com))

Forget whether you like Trump or hate Trump.

**Think about what the President of the United States just said about your money.**

## This Is Exactly Why I Own Bitcoin

I'm Canadian.

I earn Canadian dollars. I own Canadian assets. I do business in Canada.

But I don't want **100% of my financial future dependent on the Canadian dollar, the U.S. dollar, or the monetary decisions of any single country.**

Trump can threaten tariffs.

Canada can retaliate.

The Bank of Canada can raise or lower interest rates.

The Federal Reserve can do the same.

Governments can run deficits.

Trade relationships can deteriorate.

And currencies can move because of decisions you and I had absolutely nothing to do with.

**Bitcoin doesn't care.**

There isn't a Canadian Bitcoin.

There isn't an American Bitcoin.

There isn't a Trump Bitcoin or a Carney Bitcoin.

**There is Bitcoin.**

And neither government can wake up tomorrow and decide there should suddenly be 30 million of them.

The maximum supply is **21 million Bitcoin.**

## Look at What's Happening Right Now

This isn't theoretical.

Canada and the United States are already in a serious trade dispute. Canada is preparing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods beginning September 8, while Trump's new tariffs are already putting pressure on Canadian exporters. ([Investing.com Canada](https://ca.investing.com/news/coronavirus/trump-says-canadian-dollar-imbalance-with-us-is-unacceptable-4829679?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com))

The United States accounted for roughly **66% of Canada's exports in July**.

That's how connected our economies are. ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-july-trade-surplus-shrinks-weeks-before-new-us-tariffs-2026-09-03/?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com))

Now the U.S. president is publicly complaining about the value of our currency.

What happens next?

**I don't know.**

Neither does anyone else.

And that's exactly the point.

When politicians in another country can make a statement on Sunday morning that suddenly puts your currency into the political conversation, maybe it's worth owning an asset that neither side controls.

## This Is the Time to Own Bitcoin

I'm not telling Canadians to dump every dollar they have into Bitcoin.

I'm not saying Bitcoin can't fall.

It can. Bitcoin remains volatile.

I'm saying something much simpler:

# **I would not want to own zero Bitcoin right now.**

If you've been waiting for the world to become predictable before buying Bitcoin, you're probably going to be waiting forever.

There will always be another election.

Another tariff.

Another trade dispute.

Another deficit.

Another central-bank decision.

Another reason not to buy.

Instead of trying to perfectly time Bitcoin, I think people should start **accumulating it**.

Can't afford one Bitcoin?

Who cares?

Start with **$500.**

Start with **$1,000.**

Then do it again next month.

Get to 0.1 BTC.

Then 0.25.

Then 0.5.

And if your financial situation allows it, make owning **one Bitcoin** a long-term goal.

## I Don't Own Bitcoin Because I Hate the Canadian Dollar

This distinction matters.

**I don't own Bitcoin because I think the Canadian dollar disappears tomorrow.**

I don't think it will.

I don't own Bitcoin because I think the U.S. dollar disappears tomorrow either.

### **I own Bitcoin because I don't want either government controlling 100% of my monetary future.**

Bitcoin gives me another option.

A global asset.

A transparent monetary policy.

A predetermined maximum supply.

An asset that doesn't need permission from Ottawa or Washington to exist.

That's incredibly valuable to me.

## What's the Risk of Owning Zero?

People constantly ask about the risk of owning Bitcoin.

It's a legitimate question.

But I think there's another question investors should be asking:

### **What's the risk of owning none?**

What if Bitcoin becomes a major global reserve asset?

What if corporations, institutions, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and eventually more governments decide they need exposure?

What happens if another decade of debt, deficits, currency disputes and political intervention makes scarce assets increasingly desirable?

There are only **21 million Bitcoin**.

My opinion is that eventually the world is going to want considerably more Bitcoin than is available.

If I'm right, I don't think people will look back ten years from now regretting that they started accumulating $500 or $1,000 at a time.

**I think millions of people will regret that they kept waiting.**

## Trump's Comment Doesn't Make Bitcoin Valuable

Let's be clear about that.

Trump saying something about the Canadian dollar isn't suddenly a reason Bitcoin should go up tomorrow.

That's not my argument.

His comment is a **reminder of why Bitcoin matters.**

Your Canadian dollars exist inside a monetary and political system.

Your U.S. dollars exist inside another.

Both are influenced by governments, central banks, interest rates, deficits, trade policy and politics.

Bitcoin gives you the ability to own something outside of both.

And on Sunday morning, the President of the United States gave Canadians a very timely reminder of why that might matter.

# **This Is the Time to Own Bitcoin.**

Not because I know what Trump does next.

Not because I know where the Canadian dollar trades next month.

And certainly not because Bitcoin is guaranteed to go up.

But because I don't want politicians—on either side of the border—determining the fate of **100% of my money.**

Not all your wealth.

But in my opinion?

# **Definitely not zero.**

**Think long. Act early.**
